The 122nd birth anniversary of renowned litterateur, journalist and politician Abul Mansur Ahmad was observed with due respect at Trishal.
Born in the Dhanikhola village of Mymensingh on September 3, 1898, Abul Mansur Ahmad was one of the best satirical writers of Bengali literature. He also had an illustrious career as a journalist and a politician.
Marking the day, a memorial program and dua mahfil was organized at the conference room of Trishal upazila parishad on Friday.
Sonjibon Jubo Songstha, a social welfare organization of Trishal organized the programme to commemorate the 122th birth anniversary Abul Mansur Ahmad.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Trishal, Mustafizur Rahman presided over the function while Trishal Upazila Parishad Chairman Alhaj Abdul Motin Sarker was present as Chief guest and ABM Anisuzzaman, the mayor of Trishal municipality was as special guest.
Addressing the program, ABM Anisuzzaman said, “A university has been set up in Trishal to preserve the memory of our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Still very close person to the poet, we have not been able to establish anything in the memory of Abul Mansur Ahmad. It is the failure of our Trishal people. So the time has come to sow the seeds of becoming a legend among our young generation by refreshing the memory of Abul Mansur Ahmad.”
Trishal Upazila Parishad Chairman Alhaj Abdul Motin Sarker said, “The soil of Trishal has always been well known as the fertile land of genius people. If we can remember and focus the life of Abul Mansur Ahmad, Abul Kalam Shamsuddin, our young generation will be more encouraged to prove themselves on the big stage. We should make our glorious past history known to all by organizing such programme every year. We will take proper initiatives to do this administratively later.”
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Trishal, Mustafizur Rahman said, “It is a matter of great pride for the people of Trishal that such a huge personality like Abul Mansur Ahmad has been born and raised in Trishal. But there is no sign of Abul Mansur Ahmad in Trishal. Through today’s event the young society of Trishal is remembering him, holding his memory, it is a positive change. I hope that everyone would be devoted to social service, literature and journalism by following his life.”
Conducted by the central president of Sonjibon Jubo Songstha Fahim Ahmed Mondol, former president of Trishal Upazila Press Club, Mymensingh bureau chief of CNN bangla tv Khursidul Alam Mujib, former secretary of Trishal Press Club Mustafizur Rahman Noman, general secretary of Trishal Upazila Press Club Fakruddin Ahmed, secretary of Trishal Press Club Mohammad Selim, president of Trishal online press club Anamul Haque, joint secretary of Trishal Upazila Press Club Nazmul Hasan Jibon and general secretary of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Journalists’ Association Rasheduzzaman Roni spoke the programme, among others.
Later, In response to the demands of Sonjibon Jubo Songstha leaders, the Upazila Chairman announced to name a road in Trishal as ‘Abul Mansur Ahmad Road’ and the Municipal Mayor announced to name the Municipal Auditorium after Abul Mansur Ahmad.
At the end of the memorial programme, a munajat was offered seeking forgiveness of the departed soul of Abul Mansur Ahmad.
