JnU students seize VC office for 7 point demand

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) bring out a procession later seize office of VC, Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman,at the campus on Thursday following their continuous demo to press home for their seven-point demand.

The VC office has been seized since 3.00pm on Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, under the banner ‘General Students of Jagannath University’, students brought out a procession on the campus to press their seven-point demands. They also seized VC office from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the university .During the time, all kind activities of VC office remains stopped.

Hundreds of students of the University joined the programme. They also gave a 3 day ultimatum to meet their demands and threaten to go on hunger strike from July 9 unless their demands would meet.

Addressing the programme, convener of the movement, Raisul Islam Noyon said, “, We submitted memorandums to the Vice-chancellor of the university several times, every time he assured the students that he would take necessary steps to solve the problems but we did not see any fruitful steps”.

Their 7-point demand includes forming a special committee for Jagannath University Central Students Union elections within 4 months, immediate allotment of female dormitory within 2 months, ensuring double bus trip within 1 month, providing better food quality in canteen at a cheaper rate, increasing budget in research sector, appointing 70% teachers from the university students and starting the process of setting up second JnU campus.
